Diaper Our Local Baby Bottoms! The diaper drive is back in action this fall! Due to our overwhelming success last year in collecting over 27,000 diapers, we have decided to take on the challenge again this year. We were astounded with both our communities need for diapers, and the appreciation from the organizations to be able to help more families in need. The local recipients of the diapers collected this year are: The Baby Pantry on Gratiot in Saginaw
Pregnancy Counseling Center on Gratiot in Saginaw
Underground Railroad on Washington in Saginaw
The Beacon of Hope in Bay City
Midland Diaper Bank in Midland
CAN Council & CASA in Saginaw
Abortion Alternatives in Saginaw According to a recent study, one in three mothers in the US report cutting back on basic essentials like food, utilities or child care in order to afford enough diapers for their children. Also, public resources such as WIC focus solely on food and nutrition, and therefore do not cover the expense of diapers. On average, a parent will spend $130 per month on diapers alone. The most shocking of all…the study concluded that babies may be kept in wet, dirty diapers for an extended period, or in extreme cases, the diapers have been cleaned out, dried and put back on.*
How can you help? Take up a collection of your own and contact the Junior League office at (989) 790-3763 for pick up. You can drop off diapers at the community-wide drive that will take place on October 22, 2011 at the Kroger on State Street in Saginaw from 8am to 5pm. Additionally, the Junior League of Saginaw Valley’s 24th annual Festival of Trees fundraiser from November 11-13, at the Apple Mountain Conference Center encourages visitors to bring any pack of unopened diapers in lieu of an entrance fee.
